Music
Music is an important and exciting ministry here at CrossPoint. We have designed and developed a comprehensive program which includes all ages from children through seniors. Below you will find a listing of groups followed by brief descriptions. Further details or any questions concerning our ministries may be directed to the Director of Worship and Arts at 545-1911. Rehearsals are held @ Colonial Park, unless otherwise noted.
Praise Choir
As the “traditional” choir @ Colonial Park, this choir uses a varied repertoire consisting of almost all styles of music. They sing regularly at the 8:00 sanctuary service, as well as special occasions at the 10:45 sanctuary service (September through June). Rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 8:00 in room 208. During the summer months the choir sings only the first Sunday of the month. No rehearsals are held during July and August.
Worship Choir
Participating at the 10:45 sanctuary worships service, the Worship Choir supports our instrumental ensemble by assisting in the leading of the opening worship songs and providing special music. They will, on occasion, join with the Praise Choir to present music for special occasions. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday nights in room 208 from 8:00 – 9:00.
Voices of Praise
Our Youth Choir is designed for students in grades 7 through 12 and meets Thursday evenings from 5:45 – 6:30 in room 208. Youth will be learning vocal technique as well as rehearsing anthems to be shared with the congregation in our various worship settings.
Singers of Hope
For our Sixth Graders, we offer the Singers of Hope Choir. This awesome group meets on Thursday nights from 5:45 – 6:30 in room 207. During their rehearsal time, they prepare anthems to share with the congregation, learn vocal techniques and worship leading skills. They also collaborate with the Majesty Singers to produce Musicals. They participate in worship on an “as scheduled” basis.
Majesty Singers
This ministry is available to all children grades kindergarten through five. The group rehearses Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 in Brown Hall. Each group works to prepare anthems that are shared Sunday mornings at our various worship services. This group also presents a musical during the year.
Colony Ringers
The Colony Ringers is our more advance adult handbell choir. The Ringers meet each Thursday from 7:30 to 9:00 in room 208 to prepare their monthly anthems. They present a variety of music in both Sanctuary services, and occasionally accompany hymn singing. Previous music reading skill is very helpful, but bell-ringing experience is not essential.
Glory Ringers
Our second adult handbell choir works with slightly less complex music, and is an opportunity for more persons to enjoy the art of bell ringing. This group is for adults who may have begun ringing with little or no prior music reading skills. The performance commitment is less than the Colony Ringers, but the group is given the opportunity to present anthems in the two Sanctuary services several times each year. Practice is from 6:30 to 7:30 on Monday evenings. Ringers in this group are sometimes asked to substitute in the Colony Ringers, and may eventually move into that group.
Bells of Praise
Our youth handbell choir is designed to include and encourage youth to join our music ministry, and is available to all youth in grades 6 through 12. Members do not have to have music reading experience, but need to be willing to learn. Rehearsals are held every Thursday evening from 6:30 to 7:20 in room 208. During rehearsal, members work on note reading, bell techniques, and preparation of anthems to be presented bi-monthly at both sanctuary worship services.
Majesty Chimers
To offer our children an opportunity to participate in instrumental music, we have developed our “chime” choir. Hand chimes or choir chimes, are similar to handbells, however, much more durable and simpler to use. Any fourth or fifth grader may participate in this group. Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 6:30 in room 208.
Adult Beginner Handbell Class
Adults who express interest in handbells have the opportunity to take instructional classes every Monday from 7:30 to 8:30 in room 208. These sessions are designed to teach those who already read music the techniques involved in bell ringing, and to teach music reading to those who have no musical background at all. The length of the instructional period will vary for each participant, and at the appropriate time each will be invited to move into the Glory Ringers or the Colony Ringers. This class is not a performing group, and is intended to be short-term until each ringer is ready to commit to ministry in one of the other groups.
CPUMC Orchestra
The orchestra is a large instrumental ensemble comprised of all band and orchestra instruments. (This includes strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, keyboards, and guitar.) Participation in worship is offered approximately every two months, and each of those Sundays is preceded by 2 or 3 Saturday morning rehearsals. These rehearsals are from 11:00 a.m. to noon in room 208 or the sanctuary. Adults of all ages play, along with students who have progressed past the beginner stage. (Usually Junior High grades.) Music varies in difficulty and style, but is always offered to inspire worshippers and to glorify God.
Instrumental Ensemble
This growing ensemble, in conjunction with a worship leader, leads our blended service at the Colonial Park Campus. They play a blend of contemporary choruses and modernized hymns. Persons playing any band or orchestra instrument may be considered for this group. Players should be past the intermediate skill level, and a heart for worship is a must. Rehearsals are held in the sanctuary on Wednesday nights from 8:00-9:30.
PRISM Band
The PRISM Band @ Colonial Park is a pop-music style band featuring drums, keyboard, guitar and vocalists. The band is well rehearsed and meets each Wednesday night at 7:30 in Sholter Hall. Auditioned musicians and vocalists are preferred for this team. While we need people who can sing, play instruments, act, and work behind the scenes, most important, we need people who have a heart for God.
Vessel Worship Band
Vessel Worship Band is made up of students 7th grade and above with a heart for worship. We lead worship on Wednesday nights before CORE Groups and Sunday mornings for Vessel Worship. Rehearsals are Thursday nights at 7:30 in Sholter Hall. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact the Pastor of Student and Young Adult Ministries.
NoneOther Worship Band
Worship @ South Hanover is VERY contemporary. Our campus band “NoneOther” delivers a high energy, polished worship experience featuring an electric drum set, electric guitars, a bass guitar, keyboard, and vocals. These devoted musicians rehearse every Monday night and set up anew every Sunday morning. For more information contact their worship leader Kevin.
Worship Band @ Rutherford
Worship @ Rutherford is an acoustic guitar driven style. We combine hymns and praise songs with a contemporary flair. The team is well rehearsed and practices weekly on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 at the Rutherford site. We welcome instrumentalists and singers who have a sincere love for God and for leading others in worshipping Him.
