Update: CrossPoint Missionary Andrew Mashas
Well hello to all,
This will be my last email during my training time in the US. For the last couple weeks I have learned what it means to live in an intentional Christian community as we’ve made conscious decisions to not only live as the one body of Christ but model the original Acts church, always making sure that everyone’s needs are met, all pulling their own weight to make sure the machine runs smoothly and constantly looking out for each other’s well being. It’s crazy to think that we all just met each other just two weeks ago for the first time…

Mission Central Needs and Information
Collecting Career Clothing As an added feature in our job search ministry, Mission Central is collecting “career clothing” for distribution to needy job seekers. We ask that all donated suits, shirts, blouses, skirts, ties, etc. be in good condition and recently cleaned and pressed. Having the articles on hangers inside dry cleaner bags would be most appreciated. Clothing may be dropped off at 5 Pleasant View Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050. Please call 717-766-1533 with any questions.
Mission Central is collecting Children’s Illustrated Bibles Mission Central is collecting “new illustrated (with pictures) Bibles,” for children. The Darren Shelter, part of the UMC Children’s Home in Mechanicsburg, is in need of the Bibles. The Bibles may be dropped off at Mission Central. Our phone number is (717)766-1533. Our address is 5 Pleasant View Drive, Mechanicsburg PA 17050.
Bethesda Mission needs “Paper Grocery Bags” Paper grocery bags are being accepted at Mission Central for Bethesda Mission. Bethesda does not need plastic grocery bags. Mission Central’s phones number is (717)766-1533. Our address is 5 Pleasant View Drive, Mechanicsburg PA 17050.
Cannot Accept Articles Designed for use by Children Under the Age of 12 Due to the enactment of H.R. 4040 (also known as CPSIA 101) Mission Central can neither accept nor distribute clothing, toys, cribs, or any other articles designed for use by children under the age of 12 due to possible lead contamination. I have had lengthy conversations with Congressman Platt’s Chief of Staff in his Washington D.C. office and we are indeed, subject to the ruling of this law. The good news is that until my call, no one was even thinking about how this law would impact charitable organizations. We are now, at least, on their radar for new legislation. Please call Mission Central at 717-766-1533 with any questions.
Collecting Recycled Cards and Plastic Pudding/Jell-O Cups Mission Central needs your all-occasion greeting cards to recycle the pictures for our Mission Central Handmade Cards. We use the cards in our Mission Central Kits. Mission Central needs empty clean plastic pudding or Jell-O cups to recycle as caps for spray cans in our UMCOR cleaning buckets. Our phone number is (717)766-1533. Email: missioncentral@cpcumc.org. We are located at: 5 Pleasant View Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17551.
Internet Job Search Ministry Available Mission Central and Computer Ministry, Inc. (CMI) have started an Internet / Job Search Ministry to help those looking for work by providing three free Internet computers for public use. There are books and other reference materials available as well. The computers are available Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Please phone 717-766-1533 with any questions. Mission Central is located at 5 Pleasant View Drive in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Mission Central Needs Knit or Crochet Hats and Fleece Blankets Mission Central needs knit or crochet hats, gloves, and scarves for our Warm Heart and Hands kits. We also need twin sized blankets or fleece throws. We recently depleted our supply of blankets. We sent 300 “Warm Heart and Hands Kits,” to a shelter in Camden, NJ. We have an opportunity to work with Bethesda Mission to aid their street ministry with our kits. The kits will include a blanket, a hat or gloves, an uplifting book, and a handmade card. We hope to supply new blankets, the fleece throws you find in most department stores work well, and they are compact and most importantly are WARM!
If you can help us with supplies please send them to Mission Central. Our address is 5 Pleasant View Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Our phone number is (717)766-1533. Our email address is missioncentral@cpcumc.org.
Recycle Your Used Cell Phones Please bring your old cell phones to Mission Central. We recycle the phones and use the funds we receive for recycling for our operating budget at Mission Central. Drop off phones during our regular operating hours: Monday thru Friday: 8:30am to 4:30pm and Saturday: 8:30am to 4pm.
Computer Ministry – An Individual or Small Group Volunteer Opportunity Amazing things have been happening with Computer Ministry. In 2008, 6,060 computers have been distributed world-wide. Our latest venture was 35 units to the Presbyterian Seminary in Manila, Philippines. Other shipments were to Bolivia, Republic of Georgia, Sierra Leone initiative, Pee Dee Indian Nation, and Guatemala. In October 2008, CMI assumed responsibility for the Capital City Computer Program developed by the Honorable George Leader. We now serve that project.
A company, “Got Junk”, has approached CMI with an unbelievable offer. 3.500 Pentium P IV Computers and peripherals. These should be arriving at Misson Central some time in January. If you have requirements, identify them now and get your requests in. IF NO SOFTWARE IS TO BE LOADED, CMI can probably ship 40′ containers of up to 200 PCs. Loading XP Pro and Open Office take time and still cost $5.00 a license PRE-PAID (we must buy the licenses).
There are many products available at Computer Ministry. Print and toner cartridges, form feed paper, a variety of AV equipment, all for the asking.
Computer Ministry is open Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. We are also open the first and third Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The 2nd Saturday of the 2nd month of each quarter from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm for recycling. We are always in need of volunteers.
Contact us at computerministry@comcast.net or call M-W-F 9:00 am – 3:00 pm to 717.766.6373, and ask for Charles.
